importance of education for adults


I.ABSTRACT
This paper is aimed at explaining the concept of “Importance of Education for adults”. Education is considered as an essential part of everyone’s life. Everyone should be literate so that they can do their own work. It is the process of learning new skills, training, discussion etc. Presently, education becomes very important for everyone. Without education there are many problems which a person has to suffer. In the Indian Constitution by the 86th amendment, 2002 introduced Article 21A as a fundamental right. Under this article it is provided that free and compulsory education will be given to all children of age group of 6years to 14years. It does not matter whether a person is an adult or children, education is important for everyone.
II.INTRODUCTION
It is a type of practice in which the adults of every community are occupied in learning different activities to develop new skills and knowledge. It is a platform where the adults can use their experience and knowledge to learn new skills for their bright future. It also involves those adults who never get a chance to go to school but they are enthusiastic to learn for their growth in the society.
It includes certification for the skills which opens better job opportunities. It also provide a chance for the development i.e. financially and socially of any individual. For adult education there is no prohibition of gender or age of men and women.
III. HOW LITERATE ARE OUR ADULTS?
Presently, there are more than 270 million students who are registered in the programs of graduation but on the other side there are still 750 million students who never go to the classroom. Irrespective of this, 68% women are illiterate from the total of adults. If we calculate from every group of adults like if we take five adults then from every five adults (20%) has never go to school and they cannot read or write. We can compare it from various countries like in Asia Pacific it is (22%), North Africa (41%) and Sub-Saharan Africa (41%) are total illiterate adults.
For this problem, the government and various non-government organizations took a step towards this in all over the world. Due to this, many people are registered for non-formal and formal education but still there is so much need to be done.
IV. WHY EDUCATION IS NECESSARY FOR ADULT
It is divided into three types like formal, non-formal and informal education. The details are mentioned below:-
ü  FORMALIt is a type of education which is given in classrooms under the supervision of professional person. The examples of formal adult education are colleges and schools. It refers to the registration of adults into various courses of certification to learn for the growth of their career. It includes various certification or diploma courses which is solely depend on the choice of the adult. 

ü  NON – FORMAL It is a type of education which is given at the workplace or at a community centre. It is not in any classroom. It is regulated under the control of professionals. The main motive of this education is only to develop the skills and competence of the adult.

ü  INFORMAL – It is acquired through observation and experience. It basically involves behavior, ethics, etiquettes, culture etc. It is not taken through classroom.
V. ILLITERATE ADULT EDUCATION
An illiterate adult is an individual who is in the age group of 15 years to 65 and who is incompetent to read and write in any of the language. It refers to the education which is given to the adults who have completed the age of formal education i.e. 15-35 years but still they have desire to learn. It involves basic skills like writing, language, development of the skills, reading etc. Therefore, an illiterate adult can learn anytime in his life go for formal education through various distance courses which is offered by numerous recognized universities. The illiterate adult education basically includes non-formal and informal education.
VI. HOW MANY LITERATE ADULTS ARE THERE IN THE WORLD?
Approximately, there are 781 million illiterate adults in the world. In Sub- Saharan Africa, South Asia it is 75%. Women constitute almost 2/3 of the world’s total illiterate of adult population. The largest population of illiterate adults in India is at 287 million and 37% of the world’s illiterate adult population. From the past two decades the literacy rate is increased enormously.
VII. WAYS TO IMPLEMEMENT ADULT EDUCATION
Following are the ways through which the adult education can be implemented:-
·       Convey with the poor people.
·       Promotion of adult education so that the adults can be encouraged.
·       Allocation of the budget.
·       Training courses should be given.
·       Open Universities.
VIII. ADVANTAGES OF ADULT EDUCATION
There are various advantages of adult education which is mentioned below:-
·       Enhance the knowledge and skills.
·       Opportunity to learn different things.
·       Increase the adult employ ability.
·       Provide a chance to enhance their future in any field.
·       Provides higher salary.
·       Improves the options of career of the adults.
IX. BARRIERS TO ADULT EDUCATION
These are the barriers of adult education:-
·       Time shortage.
·       Fear of uncertainty.
·       Age difference.
·       Lack of interaction.
X. CONCLUSION
Through this short article, the author wants to conclude that adult education is necessary as well as child education. There should be some training courses so that the adults can be encouraged for their further studies. Some adults cannot do their study because of the pressure of family or many responsibilities for which he has to earn money from his family. So, if adults will be educated then they will be able to safeguard their families.
